1980 – Volunteer awarded Young Citizen of the Year

Volunteers at all levels of the organisation have always played a vital role in MacIntyre, since the early days at Westoning. Therefore, it was a significant moment in MacIntyre’s history when on 27th February 1980, Melanie Fensome, a volunteer at Westoning Manor, received the award of Young Citizen of 1979 from Sir Peter Gadsden, Lord Mayor of London. Melanie was presented with a Gold Medal, a Silver Award for the 15-18 years old age group, a prize of £250, and a trip to Disneyland in California. At the time, Melanie was 16 years old and had been a volunteer at Westoning for three years, working at weekends and during her school holidays.
