1983 – Princess Diana visits Westoning

As a measure of the growing recognition of MacIntyre’s work, HRH The Princess of Wales spent an afternoon at Westoning Manor on September 20th.

David Berriman, the Chair of MacIntyre, said that the visit was ‘a real tonic for everyone’. The Princess had the opportunity to see around Niven House, the New Court Workshop and the school. She was enthusiastic about what she saw and was keen to chat to residents and staff. A letter from the Palace sent to MacIntyre after the visit stated that the Princess was “particularly impressed with the variety of activities and the lovely happy atmosphere throughout”.
